Light Drawing Photography

Light painting is an imaging technique that uses a moving light source to add light to an under-illuminated subject while taking a long-exposure photograph. We turned the art room in a "dark room" and started experimenting with exposure and shutter speed. Hope you like our experiments with our brand-new school camera :)

Team Work!

In this art activity, students drew each other using pastels and then painted the overlapping figures with watercolors. An important part of working in a team is to help, share, accept differences, resolve a problem together.... it was a fun and creative way to start the school year in art class!

Art with a Voice

|

High School Students Take a Stand

We all know how important part of our lives art is. Art is beautifying our surroundings, art keeps us linked to our inner self, art helps us express emotions and ideas. However, art is not just about beauty and aesthetic pleasure. More than any other art form, contemporary art has the power to provoke dialogue, deep and critical thinking, provoke questioning and empathy. Highs school students were asked to choose a topic that it’s important to them and make a statement using any art medium or form.

They had to do few steps to finish the whole project. Brainstorm ideas, make sketches, choose topics that are important to them, research, find different viewpoints in the same subject and finally choose the best medium/art material to visualize that concept. They all had different subjects that took their interest. I found out that they are occupied with important social questions like feminism, environment sustainability, marketing and fashion, politics... I was impressed by their higher order thinking skills. Take a look of their artworks and presentations.

Mexican Metal Folk Art

One of the least known, most versatile, and most beautiful expressions of Mexican folk art ishojalata (tin art work), also known in some parts of Mexico as, lamina  or lata. Since the 1500's, this humble metal has been made more pleasing by being shaped, stamped, punched, painted and cut into a wide variety of decorative and functional artwork:

Ebru Painting

The word ebru (cloud, cloudy) or abru (water face) means in Turkish the technique of paper marbling. Marbling (Ebru painting) is the art of creating colorful patterns by sprinkling and brushing color pigments on a pan of oily water and then transforming this pattern to paper. This way of painting is very special  http://elearning490.blogspot.mk/2012/09/steps-for-making-ebru-art.html
so after we watched a video of authentic Ebru painting we created our own version of this technique by using nail polish. Students loved it!
