Types of Lines

My 5 year old students practicing different types of line. The drawing was painted with watercolors at the end. We learned that oil pastels are resistant to water and you can't paint over them . And, we learned few tricks with white pastel and tempera.  Magic :)

Tissue Paper Painting

The young artists form the 5 year old class did simple yet very beautiful art works using only tissue paper and water. It was a fun process-focused lesson that gives us many possibilities for interventions and progression. We simply cut out pieces of brightly colored tissue paper, arranged them in our preferred way of color combination, and add some water on top. We learned that when the tissue paper gets wet, the dye begins to bleed and so the different colors transfer on the picture. There were so many “wows” at the end of the art class.

Middle School

Middle School students started with a fun graffiti art project and a lesson about line and texture. First we watched a video on how to draw bubble and block letters and later they were introduced to various of ways how they can create a texture of a wall so they can incorporate it in their graffiti design. Students were encouraged to choose their own technique and art material that will work best for their idea. They finished some really cool graffiti designs using variety of medias and tools from water colors and tempera to sharpies and oil pastels.

Graffiti

High School students are working concurrently on two units EO1-Sketchbook Unit and EO2-Principles of 2D Art. Students are using their sketchbook during art class in order to document written and visual information, to practice and develop ideas, but are also encouraged to use their sketchbook at home as an ongoing tool for investigation, growth and discovery.

We started the EO2 Unit with a lesson about line, value and texture. Students incorporated those elements of art in an art work while choosing their own technique and art material that will work best for their idea. They finished some really cool graffiti designs using variety of medias and tools from water colors and tempera to sharpies and oil pastels.

Scroll down to look at some finished awesome graffiti proposals!

Young Architects

My 6 year old students learned a new term in art class- Architecture. First we read the super-fun book Iggy Peck Architect, next we discussed what is needed to become an architect and finally, we designed our own building. We incorporated a lesson about lines and finished it with adding splash of paint in the background.
