TASK Party

Inspired by the contemporary artist Oliver Herring and other TAB teachers, we started the school year with a task party. It is a fantastic activity that sets the tone for collaboration, material and idea exploration and problem solving in the classroom. Students select a task out of a box and then they complete the task, but have to use design and out of the box thinking in order to be able to complete the tasks.

TAB Art Classroom

I am so fortunate my school supported me and gave me the opportunity to take part this summer in a TAB workshop organized by MassArt (Massachusetts College of Art and Design) to develop, enrich and expand my practice as a TAB teacher. The TAB or choice based art is a student-directed learning that meets the needs of all students, empowering them to make art that is uniquely theirs.

TAB classroom does not follow the factory style logic where all students create similar artwork. In a choice based classroom, students are the artists that choose the studio or studios they want to work in and make choices of materials, ideas and processes. This approach develops all the 21st century skills and teaches students to think like artists.
